Family Stars Privacy Policy

Family Stars is a fully offline reward chart app for families. It is built specifically so that no personal data ever leaves your devices.

What we collect

Nothing. The app does not collect, transmit, sell, share, or store any personal data on any remote server. There is no internet permission, no analytics, no advertising SDK, no crash reporter, and no AI service involved. Sync between family phones happens directly between the devices in the same room (over Bluetooth, or by scanning a QR code on screen). That data never leaves your phones.

What stays on your device

The following information is stored only locally, on the device where you entered it, in private app storage:

• An optional family name
• The first names of the children that you add
• The list of rewards you create (for example "30 min phone time")
• Star events (additions, removals, redemption requests and approvals) and the optional reasons you type
• A locally generated random family ID and family key used to sign sync messages

Uninstalling the app removes all of this from the device.

Permissions

• Camera: used only when you tap "Scan QR code" so the camera can read a sync code from another family device. The app never records, saves, or transmits camera footage.
• Vibrate: used for short tactile feedback when buttons are pressed.
• Bluetooth (scan, connect, advertise): used only for the "Sync via Bluetooth" feature so the phone can find and connect to another family phone in the same room. No remote servers are involved.
• Nearby Wi-Fi devices (Android 13+) and Wi-Fi state: declared because the Google Nearby Connections library needs them to operate; the app itself does not request internet access or connect to any network.
• Location (Android 11 and below only): requested only on older Android versions where Bluetooth scanning will not work without it. The app never reads or stores your actual location. On Android 12 and newer this permission is not requested.

The app does not request internet, contacts, microphone, storage, or any other permission. The Bluetooth permissions are used strictly for direct phone-to-phone sync, never to reach the internet.

How sync works

You can keep family phones in sync in two ways. Both work fully offline:

• Sync via Bluetooth: both phones tap the same button and stay near each other. The app finds the other phone and exchanges everything in one go using a direct Bluetooth link. Nothing goes through a router or the internet.
• Show QR code and Scan QR code: one phone displays a code on its screen, the other reads it with its camera. For a full two-way sync, do this once in each direction.

In every case the data stays on your devices. There is no cloud, no account, and no remote server.

Children's data

The app is designed to be used by families, including children. The information about a child (first name, color, star totals, redemption history) is created by parents on parent devices and stored locally. The app does not contact, track, or profile children in any way. There are no advertisements, no in-app purchases, and no third-party services embedded.

Account

The app does not have user accounts. You do not create one to use it.

Changes

If anything changes about how the app handles data, this page and the privacy declaration in the Google Play listing will be updated. The change will apply going forward only.
